Meet Firefighter Dontrell McIntyre

Firefighter Dontrell McIntyreRecruit Class 8 is now serving at a fire station near you! Get to know Madison's newest firefighters.

Where are you stationed?
Station 8 (Lien Road) on the ‘A’ shift.

Why did you want to pursue this career?
I've always admired the profession and have never wanted to do anything else.

Why did you want to work in Madison, for the Madison Fire Department?
Working for the Madison Fire Department is all that I've ever wanted to do. I grew up around MFD members and all I've ever heard was how much they loved being a firefighter. That made a huge impact on me.

What has been the most rewarding part of your experience so far?
Definitely feeling like what I do makes a difference in someone’s day and/or life.

Since graduating the Academy, what are among the most memorable experiences you’ve had?
Getting to know my crew has been one of the best parts of the job so far, and then also just putting everything I was taught in the fire and EMS academies to practical use.

What advice would you give to someone hoping to join the MFD?
To remember that the process of getting on is a marathon, not a sprint. Keep focused on each step of the process and don't worry about the the steps ahead. Also, this is the best job ever … you will never regret it.
