IF IT IS NOT WINTER IN WISCONSIN

THEN IT MUST BE ROAD CONSTRUCTION SEASON

The Madison Police Department (MPD) wishes to remind motorists that with the onset of warmer weather, the start of construction season has begun. Several major Capital City projects will have a significant impact on traffic flow. One, on Williamson St., is already underway, and a second, on Northport Dr., is scheduled to soon commence. Motorists are reminded to be vigilant for workers and other hazards while driving through construction areas, to monitor their speed, and to obey all signage. Be mindful that there will likely be delays, so please plan accordingly. Officers, including members of the Traffic Enforcement Safety Team (TEST), will be observing construction zones for compliance, and will be taking enforcement action. The MPD reminds you that safety on our roadways is everyone's responsibility, and that while we are committed to improving safety through education and enforcement, we rely heavily on your cooperation. Whether you are a pedestrian, bicyclist or motorist, please follow all traffic laws. The MPD supports the "Zero In Wisconsin" campaign and believes that we all can make a difference. Please remember to drive safely and to "buckle up." State law now allows law enforcement to stop a vehicle when the driver is not observed wearing a safety belt. The MPD also reminds motorists that state law requires that vehicles yield right-of-way to pedestrians in crosswalks. Remember - don't drink and drive!
