A New Dog Park Exercise Areas to Officially Open:
Official ‘Ball Toss’ Opening:  Monday, October 13, 1:30p.m. at Walnut Grove Park, 202 N. Westfield Drive.
Starting Monday, our four-legged best friends have another new place for them to run around – without a leash. Walnut Grove Park, 202 N. Westfield Road, joins seven other parks in the city of Madison as locations for a fenced dog exercise areas. Odana School Park dog exercise area also opened earlier this year. These new off-leash dog parks were chosen after several community meetings with interested west side dog owners, as well as people who lived in the proposed neighborhoods.
Everyone and their dog are invited to join Mayor Paul Soglin, Madison Parks Superintendent Eric Knepp and the west side neighbors and dog owners for the event.
“Madison Parks is committed to providing safe places for dogs and their owners to exercise and enjoy the outdoors,” says Eric Knepp, Madison Parks Superintendent. “The City of Madison is proud to be ranked #6 in the nation for off-leash dog parks by the Trust for Public Lands.”
Walnut Grove Dog Park and Odana School Dog Park join six other popular off-leash dog parks in the City of Madison: McCormick Greenspace, Demetral Park, Brittingham Park, Quann Park, Sycamore Park and Warner Park. These off-leash dog parks provide great places for dogs and their human companions to enjoy exercise and the outdoors together.
Dog Park Rules: All dogs are required to have valid municipal license and a dog park permit to enter any public dog park in the City of Madison or surrounding communities. Dog Park Permits are on sale either at the park or on-line, are valid from January through December and provide access into the eight Madison off-leash dog parks, seven Dane County dog parks, and pet exercise areas in the cities of Middleton and Sun Prairie.
The cost of the Annual Permit is $30 and the daily permit is $5. To learn more about the city of Madison’s dog parks, please visit:
