DetailsOfficers quickly responded to the 500 block of W. Johnson St. last night after concerned callers reported seeing someone with a gun confronting others. When officers arrived, they saw someone who also appeared to be a Madison Police officer seated in a black Ford Fusion with a police-style blue light package in the front windshield. At first blush, the officers thought this was a MPD officer. A man with a camera was filming the MPD officers and they began trying to ascertain what was happening. The cameraman told them he was making a movie, and this particular scene is one where a law enforcement officer makes a traffic stop and pulls out a gun. There was a woman parked nearby in a running car. This was the actor playing the part of the person being pulled over. The man in the Fusion was the actor playing the part of the police officer. He had been out of the car and in possession of a fake gun. The actor was wearing a police uniform shirt with MPD patches. The movie producer said he got the uniform at a costume shop. The shirt, light package, and fake gun were confiscated, and the he was given a warning for equipping a non-police vehicle with blue lights. The cameraman had placed a couple of signs near the area where the movie scene was being shot, attempting to alert passersby; however, concerned callers missed see the signage.
