The Special Investigations Unit or SIU is staffed by two Detectives, one Intelligence Officer and a Lieutenant. The mission of the Madison Police Department's Special Investigations Unit is to enhance community safety by identifying, supervising and working with selected offenders who have a history of involvement in violent crime. This is accomplished by working in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, Dane County District Attorney's Office, other law enforcement agencies, and community service providers. S.I.U. endeavors to fulfill this mission by providing enhanced opportunities for participants to make positive, productive changes in their lives, as well as ensuring the highest level of legal accountability for those who continue to choose to re-offend.
