License Renewals
Invoice
City of Madison alcohol license renewal invoices for are sent in mid-May. Invoices for your non-alcohol City of Madison and/or Dane County business license(s) are sent at the end of May.
Unpaid renewal fees from last year will appear on your invoice as Licensing Fees in Arrears.
Return the original invoice tear-off and payment. This ensures that payment is applied to the correct licenses.
If you will not be renewing a license, notify us at licensing@cityofmadison.com.

License Issuance
The Clerk's Office will issue your licenses once all fees have been paid in full and paperwork is complete. The Clerk's Office cannot issue your licenses if you have:
- Delinquent personal property taxes
- Delinquent state sales taxes
- Wholesaler debt
- Unpaid license fees.
The Clerk's Office mails licenses daily beginning the final week of June. Once you receive your licenses, post them in a conspicuous place at your establishment. The entire license should be visible, not just the mailing address.
