District 11 Book Club: "The Art of Community: Seven Principles for Belonging" - February 26th at 7:00 PM, Sequoya Library
posted
A thriving community begins with a shared, meaningful purpose that inspires its residents. By clearly communicating and reinforcing this purpose, we can encourage collaboration toward common goals. District 11 is fortunate to have a long history of residents deeply engaged in their community—whether through neighborhood associations, community sports like Midvale Heights Tee-Ball, adult fitness groups, volunteering to maintain ice skating rinks in city parks, or removing invasive species and planting native plants in local greenways.
However, there is still much more we can do to create a more inclusive community. This involves actively seeking diverse perspectives, using inclusive language, and fostering safe spaces for open dialogue to ensure all residents feel welcomed and valued. Additionally, we must address the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation, which poses a serious threat to the well-being of our community. Loneliness has been linked to higher risks of mental health challenges, chronic diseases, and even premature death, making it an urgent health concern that requires our attention and action.
Please consider attending the next District 11 Book Club event on February 26th at 7:00 PM in the main meeting room at the Sequoya Library. Together with area residents and community leaders, we will discuss Charles H. Vogl's 2016 book, The Art of Community: Seven Principles for Belonging. A limited number of copies will be available at the "Ask Desk" on a first-come, first-served basis. This casual, public event is open to all, and even if you haven't finished the book, you're encouraged to attend and join the conversation!
