Council to hear Referendum Comments and Meeting and Event Highlights for the Week of August 5, 2024
postedIF YOU WANT TO WEIGH IN ON THE $22 MILLION REFERENDUM, THIS TUESDAY AUGUST 6 IS YOUR ONLY CHANCE TO DO SO (as part of public comments): On Tuesday, the Mayor will make the case for the Common Council to support her proposed $22 million ongoing, yearly referendum/tax levy as the solution for solving the budget crisis.
You can register for support or oppose this proposed solution or simply to give your commentary during this Tuesday's Common Council meeting. You will need to register item #84443 referendum resolution.
You are not required to speak, and when you register, you can be counted, and your vote will be tallied. These tallies (support, opposition, or neutral) become part of the public record and are to be considered by the Council in their vote.
Then, two weeks later, on Tuesday, August 20th, a specially scheduled virtual Common Council meeting will be held for Alders to take a final vote on the resolution. No public commentary will be heard or allowed at this meeting.
So, in order to go on record supporting or being in opposition of the referendum and have your vote counted (in public comments) you need to be at Tuesday's meeting to testify and/or register your vote.
To register for the meeting, go to the City of Madison website click on >> City Hall >> Committees>>Common Council >>August 6, 2024 >>Register for Public Comment
You will receive a link to attend the meeting after you register. If you do not receive a link and/or if you have questions you can call the Common Council office at (608) 266-4071 for help. They are here to serve and assist just as we are.
You are also welcome to attend the meeting in-person and register your opinion on-site before the meeting starts at 6:30 on Tuesday August 6th at the City County Building (210 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard; Room 201).
If you want to give the Mayor, Common Council, or Common Council office your input via email, email/cc: your comments to mayor@cityofmadison.com; allalders@cityofmadison.com, and/or council@cityofmadison.com. You may want to ask that your comments are registered in support, opposition or neutral to the issue.
