You're Invited: Southeast Area Plan Kickoff, Open House Meetings Dec 4th and 5th
postedThe Planning team for the Southeast Area Plan has announced the dates and times for a series of kickoff events. The Southeast Area Plan is an opportunity for residents to give input on their neighborhoods' land uses, transportation and traffic issues, park amenities, tree canopy, public art, and more, within the planning area. Planning staff will use all of this input and information to draft Plan recommendations, which the public will also have more opportunities to review and provide more input later in this process.
These events will focus on laying the groundwork for the planning process, including short presentations on what the Area Plan process involves (what area plans do and do not do, the differences between future land use recommendation maps and zoning maps, etc.) before an open-house-style event where community members can ask questions of City staff from across multiple departments.
- In-Person: The City of Madison will hold plan in-person kickoff event for the Southeast Area Plan on Wednesday, December 4th starting at 6pm at La Follette High School. This event will be an open house format, allowing for informal conversations between community members and City staff.
- Virtual: Save the date for the virtual Southwest Area Plan event will be held from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 5. More information to come!
The Southeast Planning Area is bounded by I-39/90 to the east, Sigglekow Road/Village of McFarland to the south, Starkweather Creek/City of Monona to the west and Highway 30 to the north. It is represented by 3 different alder districts: District 3 ( Ald. Derek Field), District 15 ( Ald. Dina Nina Martinez-Rutherford), and District 16 ( Ald. Jael Currie).
Within District 3, the Southeast Area Plan will cover the Rolling Meadows, Heritage Heights, and Hiestand Park neighborhoods. My goal is for this process to include as much resident input as possible. I hope to see you at the kickoff meetings!
