East Doty Street and East Wilson Street Closures

On Friday, October 18, and Saturday, October 19, the City’s contractor, R.G. Huston Company, will conduct final paving operations for the East Wilson Street and East Doty Street Reconstruction Project. Street and lane closures will result in traffic delays and Metro Transit detours. Signing for the detour routes and closed roadways will be present for the duration of the work.

Friday – East Doty Street Paving

Starting at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, R.G. Huston Company, will begin final surface paving of East Doty Street and resurfacing of South Pinckney Street, from King Street to East Doty Street.  Final surface paving on East Doty Street is estimated to be completed by 5:00 p.m. Friday.

Closure details:

  • One lane of eastbound traffic will be maintained at all times on East Doty Street.
    • The open travel lane will shift when crews move to pave the opposing lane.
  • South Pinckney Street, from King Street to East Doty Street, will remain closed.
  • City Wilson Street Parking Garage users should enter via East Doty Street.
  • There will be a short duration where vehicles will be restricted from leaving or entering the NoVo apartment parking garage or entering the City Parking Garage via East Doty Street.
    • Work in front of the garage driveway is estimated to occur between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. then again between 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
    • These closures are anticipated to last approximately 15-30 minutes each time.
    • NoVo Apartment residents should exit prior to, or after, the paving windows.
  • Access to northbound Pinckney Street will not be permitted from East Doty Street.

Friday – East Wilson Street Utility Work

Starting at 11:30 a.m., AT&T will be performing adjustments on their underground facilities in preparation for the final paving occurring on Saturday. This work is estimated to be completed by 1:00 p.m.  After work in this area is complete, East Wilson Street will reopen to normal traffic flows.

Closure details:

  • Metro Transit westbound Routes C and 38 will detour from Wilson Street onto John Nolen Drive beginning at 11:00 a.m. This detour will continue through all of Saturday. Detailed Metro Transit detour information is available.
  • East Wilson Street, from King Street to South Pinckney Street, will temporarily operate as a two-way roadway to maintain access to the Embassy Suites Hotel.
  • Access onto East Doty Street will not be permitted from South Pinckney Street.
  • Access to the Hilton Hotel will be permitted from Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.
  • Westbound East Wilson Street traffic should follow the posted detour route from King Street to the outer Capitol Square loop that runs from Webster Street to Dayton Street to Fairchild Street and back to Doty Street.

Saturday – East Wilson Street Paving

Starting at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, R.G. Huston Company, will begin final surface paving on East Wilson Street, from South Pinckney Street through the Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard intersection. This work is estimated to be completed by 1:00 p.m. Once operations have concluded, East Wilson Street will reopen to normal traffic flows.

Closure details:

  • Metro Transit will continue detouring onto John Nolen Drive through Saturday.
  • East Wilson Street, from King Street to South Pinckney Street, will temporarily operate as a two-way roadway to maintain access to local businesses and residences.
  • Access onto South Pinckney Street will not be permitted from East Wilson Street.
  • Access to the Embassy Suites Hotel should follow posted detour route from King Street along the outer Capitol Square loop that runs from Webster Street to Dayton Street to Fairchild Street to Doty Street back to Pinckney Street.
  • City Wilson Street Parking Garage users should enter via East Doty Street.
  • Contractors will maintain the Wilson Street Garage exit onto Wilson Street at all times.
    • Exception:
      • There will be a short duration while paving operations are taking place in-front of the garage driveway on East Wilson Street.
      • Vehicles will not be permitted to exit during this time. Please have patience and follow directions from the paving crew on site.
