I am not seeking re-election for D6 alder this spring
postedDear friends and neighbors-
Yesterday I filed my statement of noncandidacy for the upcoming 2025 spring elections. I am not seeking re-election for District 6 alder for the upcoming one year term. A few years ago, voters decided that the Council should have even and odd districts serve sequentially and the even districts will start the process to get aldermanic districts out of sync. In 2026, there will be an election for a two year term.
Council President Alder Yannette Figueroa Cole wrote a helpful blog about the change and info about running for office. If you are interested in running for office, for D6 or other districts, I would be happy to discuss what is involved. Contact me at marsha.rummel@gmail.com. This is the month to gather materials needed to file, the deadline is the first Tuesday in January. The Spring election is April 1, 2025. If more than two candidates file, the Primary is February 1, 2025.
It's been an honor to serve District 6 for so many years (16!). Representing one of the most progressive districts in the state of Wisconsin has been rewarding. I wanted to make a public statement so you would hear it from me.
There is plenty to do in the next few months on the Council and as a community we must prepare for the upcoming four year period with the new President. I will continue to be involved in organizing for a better world. Thank you for your support and sharing your ideas, requests for help, frustrations and disagreements, and questions. I enjoyed serving you.
