Metro Transit Hanson Road Satellite Bus Facility Remodel

September 30, 2024 Update

Quarter 4 Update
Remodeling work has been completed and occupancy has been approved. The buildings are now in use by Madison Metro Transit. Construction work that has been completed includes installation of the new electrical transformer by MG&E, installation of the new pantograph bus charger by New Flyer, storefront window assemblies, fire sprinklers and fire alarms systems, mechanical HVAC equipment and plumbing systems, electrical lighting, and interior ceilings and interior room finishes. New Flyer has installed the bus chargers in the bus parking area. The bus storage building passed final building inspection for occupancy on 9/21/2024. The maintenance building passed final building inspection for occupancy on 9/23/2024. Ongoing remaining work includes completion of the exterior metal wall panels, cabinetry countertops replacements, and completing punch list items.

Project Information

Project Overview

Design and construction to remodel existing buildings at 3829 Hanson Rd. and 3901 Hanson Rd., including site development, for bus storage and bus maintenance. The existing buildings were previously used and operated as a warehouse shipping facility. Building improvements at this facility will support articulated buses for the City’s implementation of the BRT (bus rapid transit) program. It will include support spaces for administration offices, buildings & grounds office and shop, bus wash service lanes and fueling, driver lockers and lounge, driver training, and bus maintenance repairs bays and parts storage. Also included in this work is to connect the existing HVAC equipment to the City’s Building Automation System (BAS) network.

July 3, 2024 Update

Quarter 3 Update
Remodeling construction is continuing with completion of interior finishes in the office areas. All of the concrete block walls for spaces in the bus storage areas and bus maintenance areas have been completed. Under slab utilities have been installed and all interior concrete floor slabs have been installed. The bus wash system and equipment have been installed. All of the bus charger equipment conduits and wiring to the panelboards have been installed. The inground lifts delivery and installation is scheduled in August. Ongoing work includes installation of the new electrical transformer by MG&E and installation of the new pantograph bus charger by New Flyer. Other ongoing construction work includes installation of the storefront window assemblies and the exterior metal wall panels, interior doors, installation of the fire sprinklers and fire alarms systems, installation of the mechanical HVAC equipment and plumbing systems, electrical lighting, and ongoing work of interior ceilings and interior room finishes. 

April 1, 2024 Update

Quarter 2 Update
Remodeling construction is continuing with completion of interior drywall framing in the office areas. Interior block wall construction has been completed for the new spaces in the bus storage areas and the office areas. The new concrete charger islands in the bus storage area are complete. Underground plumbing and underground utilities in the bus wash area is nearing completion. Beginning to install the new concrete floor slabs in the bus storage area that will be ongoing for several weeks. The new inground lifts in the maintenance building have been framed. Steel beam framing for the widened bus lanes in the storage building are complete. Floor slabs are planned for completion by the end of April. Ongoing work includes installation of overhead conduit for the bus charging system, gas piping installation, remaining ductwork for HVAC, electrical rough-ins, and ceiling grid installations in the office areas.

 

February 15, 2024 Update
January 9, 2024 Update

Riley Construction Company, Inc. was awarded construction at the Board of Public Works on November 8, 2023 and adopted by City Council on November 23, 2023. The start work letter was issued to Riley Construction on December 4, 2023. Construction has begun with demolition work in the office remodel areas and removal of existing concrete flooring where needed in the bus storage areas in building 3901 and bus maintenance areas in building 3829. Beginning work on underground plumbing and electrical utilities and then forming of concrete footings. Ongoing work that is anticipated through March will include installation of concrete footings, structure steel installation, in-ground lift foundations, underground bus wash equipment installations, and underground bus charging equipment stubouts in the bus storage area, and wall framing and rough-ins in the office remodel areas.
