Meet Firefighter/EMT Spencer Rindfliesch

Where are you stationed?
I am currently assigned to Engine 3 (Williamson Street) on the 'C' shift. I was previously on Engine 10 (Troy Drive) and have served at Station 7.

Why did you want to pursue this career?
It began when I was younger and having an uncle on both sides of my family who are firefighters. Seeing them and hearing their stories about how much they loved going to work everyday got me interested in this career path. Then in high school, I thought more seriously about it. Eventually, when I graduated, I began an internship with the City of Fitchburg Fire Department and realized this is all I wanted to do.

Why did you want to work in Madison?
I wanted to work as a firefighter/EMT for Madison because it is the city I was born and raised in. I grew up in this city and have it to thank for my life and countless amazing experiences, so I knew that the best way to give back would be to work for it and help anyone who resides or visits here.

What is something you've enjoyed about the territories you've served?
One thing I enjoyed about the northside territory is that it is the complete opposite side of town from where I grew up, so although I am from this city, I have found great joy in learning new parts.

What's been your most memorable experience at MFD so far?
My first day at my first-assigned firehouse at Station 7. The entire crew welcomed me in and helped me hone in the skills that we were taught during the recruit academy. Also, one of my drivers at Firehouse 7 happened to be my neighbor at my parent's house growing up, so then working alongside him just made everything feel full-circle.
