Meet Firefighter/EMT Bryce Anderson
postedWhere are you stationed?
Station 7 (McKenna Blvd.) on the ‘A’ shift.
Why did you want to pursue this career?
I pursued the fire service because it’s something I have been around my entire life. My father was a volunteer firefighter. I started volunteering in high school and knew it was what I wanted to do from day one. I really liked the camaraderie and sense of teamwork within the firefighting profession. The call to help others in their time of need is something I find incredibly fulfilling and meaningful.
Why did you want to work for MFD?
I have wanted to work for the Madison Fire Department because of all the opportunities the city provides for its employees and the outstanding reputation the fire department has around the area.
What has been your most memorable experience so far?
My first structure fire at MFD, and it was also the first day I was shipped out to another station. Our crew did a nice job knocking down the fire and preventing it from spreading.
What advice would you give to someone hoping to join the MFD?
I would tell them that all the work you put into applying is so worth all the effort. Also, if you don’t get hired the first time, don’t get discouraged. If this is something you truly want, don’t give up. Keep applying, as it took multiple times for me.
