Meet Firefighter/EMT Brandon Acker
postedWhere are you stationed?
I work on the 'C' shift and am currently assigned to Station 13 (Town Center Drive). Previously, I was assigned to Station 3 (Williamson Street) right after graduation and then Station 6 (W. Badger Road) prior to my current assignment.
What is something you love about Madison?
In my free time, I love to go fishing. The Madison area has numerous lakes to choose from, which is a huge benefit!
What has been the most rewarding part of your experience so far?
I have enjoyed getting to know so many people on the job. Being on a three-month rotation for our first year has given me the opportunity to work with different crews throughout the city. My colleagues have made it such a great experience and are willing to teach me aspects about the job along the way.
Why did you want to work for the Madison Fire Department?
I love the many different aspects of the job that the Madison Fire Department has to offer, especially having numerous specialty teams. It gives me the opportunity to continue to learn and offers me many different avenues to grow as a member of the organization. Also, Madison is a family-friendly community with a lot to offer, and I could see raising a family of my own here.
What advice do you have for someone hoping to join the MFD?
Keep applying! This is the best job in the world. If you don’t get hired your first or second time applying, don’t give up. You won’t regret continuing to pursue it once you're a part of the team!
