Lieutenant Tim Hagen Retires from 'Bucky's House'

Tim Hagen
Lieutenant Tim Hagen is retiring from the Madison Fire Department today following 25 and a half years of service with us.

During his time at MFD, Hagen served as a firefighter/EMT, firefighter/paramedic, apparatus engineer, back-up Chief's Aide, and became a lieutenant in 2015. He served on the Lake Rescue Team for 15 years and spent more than 20 years on the Hazardous Incident Team. He was also a member of the Fire Fighters Local 311 labor union executive board.

In addition to these experiences, he especially enjoyed being a training officer for two recruit academies.

"You get to see those recruits grow from 'recruits' to 'firefighters,' and you see them eventually become paramedics and grow in their careers," said Hagen.

Hagen's tenure was fueled by a simple but steadfast theme.

"My thing is, 'Did you make a difference today?' My crew has heard it thousands of times. I think it's important to try to make a positive difference in someone's life."

Hagen is celebrating his last day at Fire Station 4 on Monroe Street, where he spent much of his career. He'll be the first to tell you "it's the best firehouse in the city."

"Is it the brick and mortar? No. It's the people in it."
