Firestone Challenge Award Winner
Tim Bradt, Memorial Auto Teacher Miles Tokheim, and Nathaniel Imrie

One of the City’s Fleet Services’ Apprentices recently received a prestigious award and scholarship by winning the Firestone Challenge, a regional skills competition for high school automotive students sponsored by Firestone and Madison College.

Nathaniel Imrie is a senior at Memorial High School graduating next month. He has worked with Fleet Services as an Apprentice since January 2018 at both First Street and West Badger Road garages, working on garbage trucks, pickup trucks, police cars, and other types of equipment. Nathaniel has also helped administer our online vehicle auctions. Nathaniel and our other high school Apprentices are under the guidance of full time Fleet Technicians. The students are paid and also receive school credit as part of the Madison Metropolitan School District work-based learning program.

Nathaniel teamed up with classmate Tim Bradt of Memorial High School to outperform 40 other teams from Madison Metropolitan School District, Sun Prairie, New Glarus, Wisconsin Heights, Stoughton, and other districts. The contest involved both written and timed hands-on work such as parts identification, rotating tires, using diagnostic scan tools, and operating a micrometer.

Nathaniel and Tim have earned scholarships and new tools to continue their automotive education at Madison College. Nathaniel has credited both his high school and his time with us at Fleet for his confidence and success in the Firestone Challenge. We are proud of Nathaniel for the win, and look forward to his continued accomplishments working with us this summer and studying at Madison College. Upon completion of his Madison College degree, he will have the opportunity to apply for a full time job right here at Fleet.
