Implement Bus Rapid Transit

Launching Fall of 2024!

To reduce travel times across the region, Metro is set to launch its first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route this fall.

BRT routes will operate every 15 minutes in dedicated lanes with less frequent stops.

More than 40 stations are currently under construction along Metro's future Rapid Route A.

BRT features include collecting fares at stations rather than on the bus as well as traffic signal priority at intersections which will allow BRT buses to move through congested areas more easily and reliably.

As part of the project, Metro has purchased 62 all-electric articulated vehicles, which will make up approximately 1/3 of its bus fleet.

These vehicle types are more 1 ½ times the size of Metro’s current vehicles, which will allow more people to be transported by one individual vehicle and driver.

Metro's Rapid Route A will run east-west from Sun Prairie all the way to Junction Rd.

A second BRT line, Rapid Route B, is currently in development with hopes to launch in 2027 or 2028.

All-electric vehicles will be introduced onto Metro's current Route B this fall.

Route B buses will board at BRT stations in the corridors that intersect with Route A. Where those lines intersect, there will be a bus every 7 ½ minutes.
