Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District Force Main Break on Monona Drive

posted

On Wednesday, January 21st a 36 inch diameter sewage force main owned by the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District was damaged, necessitating an emergency repair. The damage occurred on Monona Drive between Davidson Street and Buckeye Road. Residents of the near East side were asked to minimize water consumption so the sewage pumping station could be shut down during the repair. This request was not related to any concerns with the drinking water quality. There have been no drinking water quality issues associated with this sewage line break. City residents most affected are Alder Districts 6 and 15. Traffic on Monona Drive was limited to one lane in each direction between Cottage Grove Road and Buckeye Road. Early Thursday morning, a temporary repair was made to the pipe. A permanent repair is now tentatively scheduled for Wednesday night, January 28th. Residents will again be asked to minimize water usage beginning sometime on Wednesday. In the interim, residents may resume normal water consumption. Efforts are being made to improve traffic flow, but partial restrictions shall remain near the repair area. Motorists should avoid the area if possible.
