District 20 Alder Thuy Not Seeking a Third Term

For almost four years, you have trusted me to be the voice of District 20 at City Hall. As the first and only Asian-American elected official serving on the Madison Common Council, it has been a journey of great honor and a lesson in humility. Now, after much consideration, I have decided that I will not seek a third term as District 20 alder. My husband, Dave, and I are looking forward to enjoying the many cherished personal plans that have been put on hold during my tenure on the Council. Since I was first elected in 2007, I have often been the lonely voice raising concerns about issues impacting our area, including the urban decline so many District 20 residents are confronted with. I have devoted myself fulltime to my alder duties, never forsaking my constituents' best interests to pursue a personal agenda and always striving to ensure that Madison taxpayers are not shortchanged. Over the next few weeks, I will weigh my options as to how and at what level I can best serve you, my friends and neighbors, as well as the rest of Madison. My heartfelt gratitude to all of you who have stood by me in our joint effort to highlight District 20 on the city map and improve our community's quality of life. With your support, we have publicly proclaimed that Madison is more than just the Downtown and Isthmus! I am forever grateful and will treasure the numerous occasions you have embraced and welcomed me into your circle of family and friends.
