New Central Library Design Meeting Includes Green Roof Feasibility Study Discussion

The first of two meetings about the design of the new Central Library will focus on a presentation of the mid-way design for the library and a presentation on the feasibility of a rooftop garden or green roof space. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 24, 7-9 pm, at the Madison Senior Center, 330 West Mifflin St. The first half-hour of the meeting will be devoted to a presentation on the Green Roof Feasibility Study created by the Facilities and Sustainability Department Staff of the City of Madison Engineering Division and prepared on January 25, 2011. Information regarding the possibility for including a green roof space or community garden on the roof of the new Central Library will be discussed, with time for community questions. Architects from Meyer, Scherer & Rockcastle and Potter Lawson will present a mid-way design and answer questions about the design for the remainder of the meeting. The schematic design for the Central Library was presented in December 2010. In the coming months, the design team is further developing the design and gathering public input. The second meeting, scheduled for Thursday, April 7, 7-9 pm, will present the final working design. The design development phase of the Central Library project revises and expands the schematic design from 2010 to incorporate all the details and specifications required for construction. Construction is expected to start in Fall of 2011 and be completed in 2013. The new design as presented on February 24 will be added to the library's web site shortly after the public meeting.
