Mayoral Staff to Attend Juneteenth Festivities

posted

Madison-Although Madison Mayor Paul Soglin will be attending the U.S. Conference of Mayors meeting in Baltimore this weekend; he will be represented at Madison's Juneteenth celebration by Astra Miriaku Iheukumere of his staff. "Although I am disappointed that I will not be able to attend the celebration this weekend, as a native of Madison and my Assistant on neighborhood resource teams and community service, Astra is well-suited to represent me. I encourage everyone to join her in the activities being held at Penn Park on Saturday," Soglin said. The annual Juneteenth Day Celebration, a celebration of African American heritage and freedom, will be held at Penn Park, 2101 Fischer Street on Madison's South side on Saturday June 18th from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The event features soul food, ethnic foods, African crafts, children's events, music, dance and fun activities for the entire family and community.
