CDA, Mayor, Alder Bruer, Neighborhood, and Building Residents Celebrate Grand Opening of Burr Oaks Senior Apartments
Mayor Paul Soglin joined Alder Tim Bruer, the Community Development Authority, neighborhood members, and building residents to celebrate the Grand Opening of Burr Oaks Senior Apartments. A partnership between the City, WHEDA, Horizon Development Group, Community Development Block Grant, and the CDA, the development created 50 affordable apartments for seniors and represents a continuation of the renaissance on the City's south side. Mayor Paul Soglin says "This is a wonderful example of what a public/private partnership can accomplish. It is great to see this affordable housing in an area of the city where it is needed and very much appreciated." Burr Oaks Senior Apartments is a $7 Million development consisting of a three-story elevator-serviced building at the corner of Badger Road and Cypress Way. Amenities include underground heated parking, a club room with fireplace and kitchen, roof top and ground level community patios, business center, fitness center, and beauty salon. Rents range from $520 to $700 per month. Alder Tim Bruer says: "The Grand Opening of Burr Oaks Senior Apartments celebrates over a decade of tireless commitment by many to provide the elders in our community with the best affordable housing opportunities possible. The amazing response by seniors has far surpassed expectations, and reflects yet another example of the many tremendous positive changes going on and appreciated within south Madison" Dan Fitzgerald, President of Horizon Development Group says "Horizon Development Group was proud to assist the Burr Oaks Neighborhood Association and the City of Madison CDA in bringing the vision of senior housing to a reality. Seniors are the fabric of this neighborhood and Burr Oaks Senior Apartments provides much needed affordable housing for the seniors." Quote from Tom Gilbert, one of the first residents "Being a resident at the new Burr Oaks Senior Apartment Homes, I am impressed. The building exceeds my expectations with the impressive design for safety, beauty and brightness with natural light. There is much more here than one might find in a typical apartment building." WHEDA awarded the development affordable housing tax credits and the City Community Development Block Grant office provided a $385,000 loan. ###
