Sunday Hours Begin at Pinney and Sequoya Branch Libraries September 11
Popular Sunday afternoon hours will debut at Pinney Branch Library and resume at Sequoya Branch Library on Sunday, September 11. Grants from the Friends of the Sequoya Branch Library and the Madison Public Library Foundation will fund expanded Sunday hours at Sequoya and the new Sunday hours at Pinney, respectively. Both libraries will be open from 1-5 pm on Sundays, starting September 11. Sunday hours will continue through May of 2012. Sunday hours at the Central Library were suspended due to its move to temporary quarters later this fall. The Central Library's Sunday hours were moved to the Pinney Branch (204 Cottage Grove Rd.) "We know from the past experience at the Central and Sequoya libraries that Sunday hours are extremely popular. We are delighted to offer these extra hours for people to pick up their library materials, access a computer, or spend some family time in the library," said Mary Burton, Branch Supervisor for Pinney Branch. "Sunday hours are an important public service. The Foundation is thrilled to be able to support something that meets the community's needs and interests," said Jenni Collins, Executive Director of Madison Public Library Foundation In the past, Sunday hours were offered from October to April. This year, fall Sunday hours were expanded to begin the Sunday after the Labor Day holiday, September 11, and Sunday hours will extend until the Memorial Day weekend in May of 2012. Funding for the extension of Sunday hours at the Sequoya Branch was provided by the Friends of Sequoya Branch Library through a donation to Madison Public Library Foundation. "The library works so hard for the community," said Nadine Pfotenhauer, President of the Friends of Sequoya. "When we are able to give back, it builds the community even further."
