No One Injured in Afternoon Apartment Fire
Occupants of a 2-story apartment building evacuated safely following a fire in a second-floor apartment this afternoon. City of Madison firefighters were dispatched to 2905 Commercial Ave. shortly after noon today. Upon arrival, crews saw smoke from the second floor at the side of the building. Inside, firefighters entered the apartment where the fire was located. They were met with black smoke, but no flames were seen. The crew used a thermal imaging camera (TIC) to guide them to the area where fire was still burning, near the center of the apartment. Once the fire was located, crews were able to quickly extinguish it. The apartments were ventilated with positive pressure. Fire damage was contained to the apartment of origin. The other three units in the building had light smoke damage. The property owner is providing all residents with lodging through the weekend. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damages are estimated at $75,000. There were no injuries reported.
