Capital K9's 2nd Annual Dogs on the Square
Meet Madison Police Department's K9 Unit and Show Your Support
CALLING ALL DOGS AND THEIR PEOPLE! The Capital K9's 2nd Annual Dogs on the Square event to benefit the Madison Police Department's K9 Unit will be held Sunday, May 20, from Noon to 3 p.m., at the Capital Square in Madison. Come out and meet the K9 officers who keep our community safe Martie, Ivan, Johnny, Slim, Gildon and Josh. They will be on hand with their officer handlers to "meet and greet" and demonstrate their amazing skills. The fun-filled afternoon begins at noon with a doggie parade around the Capital Square led by Madison Police Chief Noble Wray, the Capital K9 and Madison Mounted Police units. Plan to arrive early to check in or register because the parade will start on time. Save money and time by pre-registering at: http://www.dogsonthesquare.com. Cost is $11.24 per dog in advance or $15 per dog the day of the event. The general public is also welcome to come and watch the activities for free, even if they don't have a dog of their own. Please carefully review the rules and guidelines when you register. Registrations are non-refundable. Immediately following the parade, registered dogs will have a chance to have some fun and demonstrate their agility, obedience and skills by participating in canine challenges hosted by Supporting and Challenge Sponsors. If they participate in 10 or more of the challenges they are eligible to win prizes totaling more than $700. Some of the challenges include: bobbing for tennis balls, pup tent tunnel, spoon walk, bubble chase, low hurdles and more! Dogs and their people can also get a photo taken in a Madison Police car with a small donation going to benefit the Capital K9 unit. To view last year's event visit: http://youtube/515c8trrD64. Last year's first ever event raised $4,000 to support the canine unit. According to Michael Bell, Chairman of the Capital K9s Board of Directors, "The money raised this year will be used to help pay for medical expenses for the K9 units and to get ready to replace K-9 Officer Johnny, a Belgian Malinois, who is almost 10 years old and been a stellar member of the MPD K9 Unit." Supporting Sponsors of the event are: Pro Ad Spec and Rubicon. Supporting Sponsors also hosting a Challenge are: Animart, Camp K9 Pet Care Center, Mounds Pet Food Warehouse, Truesdell Animal Care Hospital and Clinic, Wisconsin Vest-A-Dog, Westside Family Pet Clinic. Challenge Sponsors are: Central Bark Doggy Day Care, Dawn Mogilevsky, DVM, LLC, Happy Dogz, Harmony Veterinary Services, LLC, Neutricks ® Quincy Animal Health, Rufus DuMonde Pet Salon, Silly Yak Bakery and Bread Barn, and Tabby & Jack's Pet Supplies and Grooming. If your special dog is in need of some pampering, special treats or services, there are also dog-related booths to check out. They include: Dane County Humane Society, UW Veterinary Care and Mikey's Dog Town and Training, with additional support from Veterinary Emergency Services. Midwest Family Broadcasting is proud to be the radio sponsor for this event. For organizations wishing to participate or sponsor please contact either Ken Lambrecht: 608-271-5277 or klambdvm@westsidefamilypet.com or Michael Bell: 920-344-8102 or michaelrodneybell@gmail.com. PLEASE NOTE: For the safety and security of all participants, there is a zero aggression policy. Any dogs that engage in aggressive behavior will be asked to leave immediately. A patrol K9 Unit increases departmental efficiency, while enhancing the safety of both officers and the community. To learn more about Capital K9s visit our website at http://www.capitalk9s.org.
