Ride the Drive - Westside - August 18

posted

Less than one month away!! The City of Madison and Madison Parks are pleased to host Ride the Drive - Westside on Sunday, August 18 from 10am-3pm. This is the second Ride the Drive event for summer 2013, will be hosted in a Westside neighborhood. As with previous Ride the Drive events, Ride the Drive-Westside is free and open to the public. Ride the Drive is a car-free, carefree event that transforms some of Madison's streets into a public promenade. During the event, roads on the three mile route are open for participants to bicycle, skate or walk through some of Madison's signature streets- including Regent Street and Segoe Road. Along the route, there will be activities, informational booths, musicians, food vendors and a drawing for prizes. Activities will be set up at Garner Park, Rennebohm Park and on Seqoe Road. A full list of events, vendors and activities will be posted on the Ride the Drive-Westside website closer to the event. Residents along the route may be affected as roads will be closed beginning at 9am on August 18 and reopening at 3pm. Please know that alternate routes may need to be taken that day. We ask that residents do not park on the route during Ride the Drive. Residents should contact a volunteer wearing a safety vest located at the nearest intersection if they wish to leave their driveway during the event. An intersection guide volunteer will then escort the resident out of the event route. Although the event closes some streets, it is still possible to get to homes, businesses, and places of worship using alternative streets. This map indicates the Ride the Drive-Westside route, as well as the streets open to traffic and places where motorized vehicles will be allowed to cross. There are many ways to get involved with Ride the Drive-Westside besides simply participating. Sign up to be a volunteer by visiting our volunteer page. Area businesses and organization can also get involved by becoming vendors, activity providers or sponsors. Visit the Ride the Drive-Westside website to learn how to get involved.
