Recycle Your Pots Pans Metal Kitchen Appliances During Moving Days

posted

Madison residents are reminded that they can recycle their old pots and metal kitchen appliances when they move out of their apartments. These items can now be placed in the City's green recycling carts. "We want movers to remember to recycle their unwanted pots, pans, and metal kitchen appliances such as toasters and blenders," Madison recycling coordinator George Dreckmann said. "It's very easy to do the right thing with any old metal item that weights less than ten pounds but putting them in your green recycling cart." Other examples of recyclable scrap metal include plumbing fixtures, metal power tools, and empty paint cans. Do not put microwaves, nails, screws, small hardware or large car parts in the carts. "We recycle these metal items year round," Dreckmann said. "But we know that many people have lots of this material when they move and we wanted to remind them to recycle as much as possible." To facilitate recycling and trash collection in the downtown/isthmus area the Streets Division is emptying all carts placed at the curb ever day this week. Residents are urged to put full carts at the curb and they will get emptied so they can be filled again and again through Friday. This applies to both refuse and recycling carts. Residents can get more information at www.cityofmadison.com/streets or by calling 267-2626.
