posted

FoodShare participants are reminded that Tuesday, October 29 is the last day to use and receive matching dollars for your transactions at the Eastside Farmers' Market and the South Madison Farmers' Market. Participants must redeem all outstanding "Double Dollars" Tuesday. "Thank you to our participating markets, health care providers, and Community Action Coalition for a marvelously successful Double Dollars program," said Mayor Paul Soglin. The program issued over $8000 in matching dollars for farmers' market FoodShare transactions to over 450 individuals since August 4. The program is funded by Meriter, UW Health, St. Mary's, and Group Health Cooperative, and operated by Community Action Coalition with the assistance of the wonderful staff of the Northside, Eastside, and South Madison Farmers' markets. "At a time when the state and federal governments are making it more difficult for people to adequately feed their families, it is increasingly important that our community joins together to do what we can to widen the safety net," added Mayor Soglin. The program will resume next year and the city is hopeful more community partners will join the effort to expand it to other farmers' markets.
