December 5 Meeting to Focus on Proposed Final Design

A public meeting has been scheduled to provide interested parties with an opportunity to hear about and comment on the proposed final design for the 700-800 Blocks of State Street and Library Mall.  The meeting will be on Thursday, December 5th, 2013 from 7 pm to 9 pm at the Lowell Center (Conference Rooms B1-A and B1-B), located at 610 Langdon Street.  The meeting will begin with a short presentation on the final design followed by an opportunity for attendees to provide comments and feedback.

The City of Madison, in partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Madison, have been developing design plans for the reconstruction of the 700-800 Blocks of State Street and Library Mall since the beginning of the year.  The focus of the design is to create a special place at intersection of two recently constructed iconic Madison corridors, State Street and East Campus Mall.  This effort has been guided by the City's State Street Design Project Oversight Committee, working with City and University staff and the consultant team lead by MSA Professional Services, Inc.  The 700-800 blocks of State Street are scheduled to be reconstructed in 2014.  Although the reconstruction of Library Mall not expected to occur for several years, the City and University recognize how these two spaces are aesthetically and functionally integrated and felt that it was important to design them together.  The design has evolved based in large part on the public input received over the past eleven months.
