Stargazing in Madison Parks

posted

Begins Monday, January 13 at 6p.m.

Do you know how to find the Big and Little Dippers in the night sky? How about Orion the hunter or the queen Cassiopeia? Or do you ever just gaze into the sky and wonder what all those celestial bodies out there are? Well here’s your chance to find out! Join Madison Parks and UW Space Place for our brand NEW Stargazing in Madison Parks Program. This stargazing program will be offered quarterly in different Madison parks and is a great opportunity for the whole family to learn about and explore the night sky. The first Stargazing in Madison Parks will be held on Monday, January 13 from 6 to 7PM at the Odana Hills Golf Course, 4635 Odana Road.

Led by a UW Space Place specialist, each of the Stargazing in Madison Parks Programs will include a kid-friendly, 20 to 30 minute presentation on how to star gaze, including proper technique and equipment, the ideal times and places in Madison to try out your new skills, and general information about the beautiful stars in the night sky. Following the presentation, all participants will have the chance to search the skies for astronomical objects using a powerful moderate aperture telescope provided by UW Space Place. All ages and experience levels are invited to attend.

Whether or not you have ever looked through a telescope, this is a unique opportunity that allows you to get in touch with your surroundings. This is one Madison Parks’ program that you will not want to miss out on! So grab your friends and your family and head on over to the Odana Hills Golf Course Clubhouse on Monday, January 13, at 6PM!

Mark your calendars for the rest of the Stargazing in Madison Parks Program. Two more sessions will be offered on Monday, April 14 from 7:30 to 8:30PM at the John Wall Family Pavilion in Tenney Park and on Monday, July 14 from 8:30 to 9:30 PM at the Garner Park Shelter. This is a unique opportunity to learn about our magnificent night sky in each of the different seasons!
