Public Meeting: Pre-design of the Madison Municipal Building & City-County Building

The City of Madison has entered into a design contract with MSR Design (http://msrdesign.com/) to work with the City and community partners on the programming and pre-design for the Madison Municipal Building and the City County Building. A public meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, October 8 at 6:30pm in Madison Municipal Building, Room 300.
A major component of this design work is to engage the community in this important project. There are 23 different City Agencies that are represented in these two buildings which provide important services for members of our community and it is important that we hear from you – so that we can shape this project to better serve the community.
The Madison Municipal Building is a building on the National Registry of Historic Places. Furthermore, there are many elements of the building that are in a state of failure including the roof, exterior, heating-ventilation-air conditioning, electrical systems, and interiors. The City needs to upgrade/remodel the building. Because of the size of the building and the scope of the work, this project provides the community with an opportunity to not only physically upgrade the building but to also provide services to our customers in a better, more effective, inclusive way. The first, and very important step, in that process is to reach out to as many stakeholder groups as possible to get their input on how services are currently provided in these two buildings and how the City could – through remodeling these buildings improve the important services that are provided in these buildings.
Finally, the City also has the opportunity to create civic space that welcomes the public and provides the community with a place to share through art, culture, and information. The City is also very interested to hear ways we can incorporate this type of programming into the design of these buildings.
