Sewer Spill on City Construction Project

Intersection of Davidson St. and Major Ave. cleaned up

The City of Madison had a discharge of untreated wastewater from a sanitary sewer located at the intersection of Davidson Street and Major Avenue. 

R G Huston, a Contractor on a City project was bypass pumping sewerage at this location, as part of some downstream, permitted sewer construction.  At approximately 9:00 AM on Thursday, April 16, the hose on the pump failed.  The Contractor quickly addressed the problem.  It is estimated that approximately 50 gallons of sewerage was spilled.  The City became aware of the incident on the morning of Friday, April 17, and followed up with minor cleanup work. 

At this time there are no adverse impacts anticipated to the public or the environment and no sewerage was discharged to downstream receiving waters.
