Snow is on the Way-Make Sure You Check in With Your Neighbors

With roughly eight inches of heavy wet snow forecast for the Madison area, residents are being reminded to check in with your neighbor, especially if they are elderly or handicapped and be ready to lend a hand.
The National Weather Service reports that the bulk of the snow will arrive after midnight tonight, making the morning drive slow, so proceed with caution, and give yourself extra time. Madison Metro buses will be in service, but may be running behind schedule due to road conditions and traffic. There are many cancellations of area schools and events, so don’t head out without checking local media to determine if your destination is open for business.
Madison Streets crews are out in force and will be utilizing roughly 150 pieces of snow removal equipment to deal with the storm. Additionally, Streets Superintendent Charlie Romines has declared a Snow Emergency. This declaration is in effect tonight. Motorists in the affected areas are asked to move their cars from City streets so plows have access. Because of the weight of the expected snow and the cold temperatures forecast to follow, crews will be working to clear the streets throughout the event.
"It’s times like this, when we all need to take an extra look at our neighbors," said Madison Mayor Paul Soglin. "If you are able to give someone a hand, clearing their driveway, sidewalk or around a nearby fire hydrant, please do."
