Anonymous Good Samaritan Credited With Saving A Life

It was just before 3:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, when a man residing on the 4800 block of Buckeye Road awoke to the sound of someone pounding on his front door.

“Your house is on fire!” the man exclaimed when the homeowner opened his door. The homeowner looked up to see his roof in flames. He was able to quickly retrieve some essential items and one of his cats before running to safety. Not a minute and a half after being alerted to the fire, the man’s ceiling caved in. It is believed the selfless actions of the anonymous passerby saved the lives of this homeowner and his pets.

The individual who pounded on the door and pointed out the fire left the scene shortly after alerting the homeowner, and the Madison Fire Department has been unable to identify him. We are asking for public assistance in identifying him so we may properly recognize and thank him for his actions.

To self-report, or to provide more information that may help us locate this citizen hero, please contact Public Information Officer Cynthia Schuster at (608) 261-5539 or at fire@cityofmadison.com.
