Walk-tober is back!

posted

For the third consecutive year, the City of Madison is promoting staying active this fall with a special month-long event, Walk-tober. This series of planned activities and events hopes to motivate the public to get out and walk during the month of October.

October is a great month for walking! Temperatures are cooler and the changing fall colors throughout the month are dazzling. Additionally, walking is a great way to boost physical and mental well-being while also staying environmentally friendly. Get out and walk to work, to the store, hike or walk just for fun.

“Walk-tober celebrates walking and encourages people to get outside,” said Pedestrian Bicycle Outreach Specialist Colleen Hayes. “This event also hopes to remind everyone about the value of walking, both as transportation and as recreation, for personal health and wellbeing”

Visit the Walk-tober website throughout the month of October to find weekly scheduled activities, walk suggestions, contests and more!
This year’s event offers a handful of planned and independent opportunities:

  • weekly walking route ideas
  • walking themed challenges
  • citywide photo contest, with a new photo challenge accompanying each weeks walk challenges.
  • suggested reading list
  • Walk or Wheel challenge in Dane County schools
  • discover activities and places to explore in the City’s more than 250 Madison Parks that offer something for everyone.
  • visit our Madison Public Libraries to find their list of walking-themed books and activities.
This is your chance to get out, on foot or by wheel, and experience your city and remember why Madison continues to be voted one of the best places to live!
