Enroll Today in the Award-Winning Master Recycler Course

posted

The course by Sustain Dane and the City of Madison begins April 6, 2023

Are you recycling right? Are you sure?

Per a 2022 sort of the city’s recyclables about 17.6% of what is in our green carts is actually trash that shouldn’t be in the recycling at all. Plus, there are plenty of misunderstandings about what can and cannot be recycled, and our packaging material always seems to be changing.

We all can certainly recycle better.

And here’s how you can help:

Become a Master Recycler
Sustain Dane, in partnership with the City of Madison, is once again offering an opportunity to become a Master Recycler.

This course provides a deeper dive into our recycling rules, and answer lingering questions you may have.

You will also receive the tools so you can share your knowledge with your friends, neighbors, relatives, coworkers, fellow congregants, and others in your life so they will know how to recycle right, too.

The first session is the afternoon of April 6, 2023. Enrollment is now open.

About the Master Recycler Course
The Master Recycler course is two sessions of 90 minutes apiece. The classes will be held online via Zoom. People enrolled should attend both sessions. Sustain Dane charges a small tuition of $15 for the course, but scholarships are available.

The spots filled up fast. Be sure to sign up today.

The course received a Wisconsin Recycling Excellence Award by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources in 2021 and in 2022 was recognized by the Associated Recyclers of Wisconsin for an Outstanding Achievement in Recycling Education.

Over 700 people have taken the Master Recycler course since it began. And their outreach projects have reached nearly 67,000 residents of Dane County. The design of your outreach project can vary to meet your audience and comfort level in teaching others. Past projects ranged from newsletters to neighborhood social media posts to presentations to a video a grandmother made with her grandchildren and shared with her family and friends

If you are interested in the class, but can’t make the mid-day schedule work in April – that’s okay.

The Master Recycler course will be offered again in July with an evening start time.
