Spring Yard Waste Collection Set-Out Date Schedule for 2024 Now Available
The 2024 set-out date schedule for the Streets Division’s springtime yard waste collection is now available on the yard waste website.
All neighborhoods will receive two curbside pickup opportunities of yard waste in the spring.
When can you set out yard waste?
Learn when to set out yard waste for pickup by visiting the Streets Division website, www.cityofmadison.com/yardwaste.
Once on the page, you have two choices on how to learn your spring yard waste set out date opportunities.
You can either enter your address into the form on the website, or you can use the look-up map tool that is linked to on the page.
Set yard waste out for pickup on the dates shown for your home. Collection will occur during the work week following the set-out date.
What is “yard waste”?
Yard waste is small plant debris that can be composted. Think of it as the weeds, leaves, grass clippings and other things that you rake or pull from your lawns or gardens.
Yard waste crews will not collect brush piles.
How do you set out yard waste for collection?
Place the leaves and yard waste at the street edge or on the terrace. Do not place yard waste into the street.
Keep the material at least four feet from obstructions where possible. Obstructions like street signs, utility poles, mailboxes, trees, and parked cars slow collect.
If you choose to bag your yard waste, please choose compostable paper leaf and lawn bags, and keep them open so crews can see what is inside.
If you choose to use other bags, that is acceptable. You will also need to keep them open, but keep in mind that crews may need to rip or slice open these bags to get the yard waste out, and they will need to leave the split bags behind at the curb.
Do not mix yard waste piles and brush piles together. Crews will not collect mixed up piles.
Drop-off Sites
The Streets Division drop-off sites will also accept yard waste.
Check the drop-off site website to learn their hours and locations before loading your vehicle.
