Mayor Rhodes Conway Announces New City Communications Manager

posted

Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway announced earlier this month that Dylan Brogan will serve as Communications Manager for the City of Madison. This new civil service position, approved by the Common Council in the 2024 operating budget, was created to support and strengthen the City's ongoing outreach to the public and to better inform and engage residents about local government activities.

Brogan started his journalism career covering the Act 10 protests in 2011 for a local radio station. He went on to lead a team of citizen reporters at WORT 89.9 FM and expanded the community radio station’s local news programming. Brogan also spent seven years reporting on city government and life in Madison as a staff writer for Isthmus. Most recently, he helped launch a daily Madison news podcast as part of the City Cast network.

Brogan grew up in the Tenney-Lapham neighborhood and lives just a few blocks away from his parents, Joe and Kathy. He’s a proud Purgolder and holds a degree in Communications Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The Communications Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating the City's communications and outreach activities, with a focus on engaging residents that are too often underrepresented. Brogan will act as a key spokesperson for City government and further the educational efforts of the majority of City departments that do not have a public information officer (PIO).

“Dylan has built trust with the community by telling compelling, nuanced stories with fair and objective reporting,” said Mayor Rhodes-Conway. “His background and experience in covering City policies and government, as well as his familiarity with, Madison communities make him a great fit for this position.”

Brogan will begin serving the city on May 28.
