The Madison Police Department’s Black Officer Coalition (BOC) and Sable Flames within the Madison Fire Department hosted a special program at Glenn Stephens Elementary School on Wednesday.

Students were able to tour squad cars and firetrucks. They also got to try on the protective gear worn by each agency.

“I love that we get to interact with the kids. They get to learn about our jobs and see what they can do. It’s just a fun day,” said MPD Officer Candace Enis, who is a member of the BOC and currently serves in the Community Outreach and Resource Education unit.

Students were able to ask officers questions about public safety. Officers also talked about ways the students can serve their community.

“We want these kids to know we are here for them. We want them to feel comfortable connecting with us at any time,” said Officer Neal Crowder, who is the president of the BOC.

This was the third year the Coalition has participated in this event.
