The City of Madison is working to make homeownership more accessible and attainable for everyone

The City of Madison is dedicated to making homeownership achievable and sustainable for residents, as part of the City’s commitment toward better access to safe, secure, and affordable housing for all.

In celebration of National Homeownership Month, we want to encourage Madison residents to explore the variety of programs the City offers to assist first-time homebuyers and support current homeowners in maintaining their properties. These efforts are made in partnership with community-based organizations.

If you are looking to buy your first home

Need help with down payment and closing costs?

Home Buy the American Dream: This program provides up to $35,000 in assistance for down payments and closing costs for income-eligible first-time homebuyers. You can qualify as a first-time homeowner if you have not owned a home in the last three years. Find more details at www.cityofmadison.com/homeloans.

Want help understanding the homebuying process?

Financial and Homebuyer Readiness and Education: The City partners with community organizations to offer financial readiness and homebuyer education sessions throughout the year. Check out upcoming events at www.cityofmadison.com/homeloans.

Homeownership Resource Fair: On June 29th from 9:00am to 1:00pm, join us at the Urban League’s Business Hub to learn about buying homes and being a homeowner. The Homeownership Resource Fair will provide essential information, tools, and resources to navigate the journey through homeownership. Learn more at takerootwi.org/events.
