District 19 Alder John Guequierre Hosts Third Budget Exploration Session
Join Alder John Guequierre of District 19 on Wednesday, October 16, for the third session of the D19 Exploring the 2025 Budget Series. This series invites attendees to explore balancing cuts with maintaining core operations. The third session will be in virtual format and feature a deeper dive into cut scenarios and their impact.
This session will closely examine proposed service reductions for some of the City’s largest departments – Fire, Police, Library, and Streets. Alder Guequierre will be joined by MFD Chief Carbon, MPD Chief Barnes, Library Director Elias, and Streets Director Romines to cover potential service reductions for their departments. This session will briefly review the magnitude of the budget deficit, as well as causes and some possible solutions. If you didn’t attend the first two budget exploration sessions, this session will also include a review of key takeaways from the first two sessions.
There will be time for resident input and Q&A at the end of the session. You can submit your input and questions during the event either verbally or on paper. You can also submit your input and questions in advance by emailing Alder Guequierre at district19@cityofmadison.com.
Alder Guequierre also created an online survey which was designed to have a process for thinking about a painful subject – what is expendable and what must be preserved? You can take the survey at the following link: www.cityofmadison.com/D19ServiceReductionSurvey.
