Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway is encouraging residents to buy locally this gift-giving season. Madison artists, crafters, and small businesses are an essential part of the local economy which help make our City a vibrant place. To show her support for local vendors, the Mayor did some holiday shopping at The Crafty Fair at the Goodman Community Center this past weekend.

“I like to buy from local vendors and local stores when looking for presents for friends and families. When you shop locally more of your dollar stays right here in the community and supports your neighbors,” says Mayor Rhodes-Conway. “Whether it’s a holiday pop-up market, Monroe Street, downtown, or Park Street, there are many small businesses in Madison with unique gifts that you can’t find at the big box stores.”

While at The Crafty Fair, the Mayor purchased a handcrafted candle, two dish towels, and a Cats of Madison calendar.

“And the great thing about shopping locally, you don’t have to wait,” said the Mayor. “It’s always free, same-day delivery.”

Meghan Stern, Dane Buy Local Development Specialist, said eight out of ten local businesses rely on a holiday sales boost.

“If we all can buy a few locally made products in the next few weeks, it’s going to benefit the entire community all year-long.”
