Trash & Recycling Collection Schedule for New Year’s Eve & New Year’s Day

There will be no Streets Division collections performed on both Tuesday, December 31, 2024 and Wednesday, January 1, 2025 in observance of the New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day holidays.

The drop-off sites will also be closed on these two days.

Below are the directions residents should follow in order to have their trash and recycling collected during the upcoming two-day holiday.

For Both Monday & Tuesday Collection Days, Here’s What You Should Do:

If your trash and recycling are normally collected on Monday or Tuesday by the Streets Division, you should have your carts to the curb by 6:30am on Monday, December 30, 2024.

Check your collection schedule calendar to determine if you should have your recycling cart to the curb along with your trash cart.

Carts set out late may not be collected.

For Both Wednesday & Thursday Collection Days, Here’s What You Should Do:

If your trash and recycling are normally collected on Wednesday or Thursday by the Streets Division, you should have your carts to the curb by 6:30am on Thursday, January 2, 2025.

Check your collection schedule calendar to determine if you should have your recycling cart to the curb along with your trash cart.

Carts set out late may not be collected.

Drop-Off Site Information

The Streets Division drop-off sites will be closed on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 and Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

The Sycamore and South Point sites will reopen on Thursday, January 2, 2025 for normal winter hours.

Check the drop-off site website for hours and locations before loading your vehicle.  The drop-off site website is www.cityofmadison.com/DropOffSites.   

No Changes for Trash & Recycling Schedule for Friday, January 3, 2025

Streets Division collection of trash and recycling will occur as normally scheduled on Friday, January 3 – unless we get severe weather that forces delays or cancellations.

Sign Up for Collection Update Emails

You can sign up to receive email alerts each time the collection schedule changes for a holiday, or extreme weather.

You can do this by signing up for the Trash and Recycling Schedule Updates email list on the Streets Division’s trash and recycling page or by signing up at the City of Madison email list page.

How to Download Your Trash & Recycling Calendar

Collection calendars are available at www.cityofmadison.com/Streets.   

To access the full document, enter your address into the “Look up Your Collection Schedule” box on the main page.

The first thing that pops up will be your next two collection dates. Underneath these dates you will see a link that says, “Full collection schedule.”  Click that link and it will take you to your calendar.

A PDF calendar will pop up that will show you the 2024 and 2025 calendar.  The 2025 calendar is on page two.
