2025 Spring Yard Waste Collection Schedule Now Available

posted

The dates when you should set out yard waste to the curb for collection this spring is now available.

The information is available on the Streets Division’s yard waste website.

All residents in Madison have two yard waste collections in the spring – one in April, and another in May.

When should I put out my yard waste?

The exact dates when you should put out yard waste for collection can be found at www.cityofmadison.com/YardWaste

Once you are on this website, enter your address into the form.

You will see both spring dates when you should put yard waste out for pickup.

After I put my yard waste out, when will you pick it up?

The date listed on the website is the date when you should put out yard waste on the terrace or right of way space in front of your home. This is not the date when your yard waste will be collected.

Collection happens sometime during the work week following the set out Sunday for your neighborhood.

What is “yard waste”?

Think of “yard waste” as leaves, weeds, and the other plant material you rake or pull from your lawns or gardens.

No Yard Waste Collection During the Summer Months

Yard waste collection from the curb happens in the spring.

There is a pause for the summer months as crews are needed for other duties.

After the summer pause, yard waste collection will return in the fall.  The fall set out dates will be available on the yard waste website later this year.

Follow Yard Waste Set Out Rules

Yard waste has specific set out rules.

Put leaves and yard waste on the terrace or right of way space on the set out date.  Do not put it in the road.

Do not mix brush with your yard waste.  Brush is a separate collection service and schedule than yard waste pickup.  Mixed piles will not be collected.

If you choose to bag your yard waste, remember to leave the bags open at the top so crews can see what is inside.  Paper lawn bags that are widely available at hardware stores and other retailers are preferred to plastic bags.  You can also cover your yard waste piles with a tarp to prevent it from blowing into the road.

Drop-off Sites Accept Yard Waste

You can take yard waste to the Streets Division drop-off sites. Be sure you know when the drop-off sites are open before loading your vehicle.

Drop-off site hours, locations, and restrictions are available at www.cityofmadison.com/DropOffSites
