Firefighters Contain Liquid Fertilizer Spill

City of Madison Firefighters contained a liquid fertilizer leak and spill on the Park Street exit ramp from the beltline this morning. Engine 1 was sent to the scene at 8:43 AM and found a lawn care truck that was leaking liquid lawn fertilizer. The Hazardous Incident Team was requested to provide information on the leaking product and supplies to contain the spilled material. Units used buckets to capture the liquid fertilizer until the leak was stopped. Absorbent material was also used to soak up the fertilizer from the exit ramp. The truck driver estimated that approximately 30 gallons of liquid lawn fertilizer solution was spilled. Dane County Emergency Management, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Agriculture were notified of the spill. All fire department units were cleared from the scene by 10:15 AM. No injuries were reported at this incident.
