
Mayor Appoints Assistants and Government Relations Officer
Madison - Mayor Paul Soglin announced today that he is hiring two assistants and a government relations officer who will be starting work the week of May 16, 2011. Astra Miriaku Iheukumere will be the Mayor's Liaison for the Police Department, the Fire Department, Public Health - Madison & Dane County, the Department of Civil Rights, and Community Services. Most recently, Iheukumere worked at the Wisconsin Department of Revenue as an outreach coordinator leading outreach activities related to tax assistance programs and services and customer education. Prior to working for the Department of Revenue, she worked for the Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services as a fiscal policy analyst. Katie Crawley will be the Mayor's lead contact for media and the Mayor's Liaison for Engineering, Motor Equipment, Parks, Streets and Recycling, and Water Utility. Crawley worked for United States Senator Russ Feingold as his South Central Regional Coordinator and Wisconsin Press Secretary. Prior to working for Senator Feingold, she worked in Madison as a reporter/anchor in commercial radio. Nicholas Zavos will be the City's Government Relations Officer and Legislative Analyst. Zavos worked as a staff attorney for the Wisconsin Legislative Council. Mayor Soglin previously hired Anne Monks and Sally Miley who worked for him during his last administration. Monks is Liaison for the Department of Planning, Community and Economic Development and for Transportation. Miley is Liaison for the Assessor, Attorney, Clerk, Treasurer, Finance, IT, Human Resources, and the Library.
