City of Madison Invites Developers to Present, Stakeholders to Attend

MADISON (August 12, 2011) The City of Madison will host a Capitol East District stakeholder meeting on Thursday, August 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Fellowship Hall of Christ Presbyterian Church (944 E. Gorham Street) in Madison. In addition to providing a general update on the District, the meeting will highlight development proposals, which were recently submitted for the purchase and redevelopment of the 700 and 800 blocks of East Washington Avenue. In May, the City issued an RFP for the purchase and redevelopment of parcels within the 700 and 800 blocks of East Washington Avenue, located within the District. The submission period for the proposals closed on June 13, 2011. A selection committee reviewed the proposals to provide the Madison Common Council with a recommendation on which of the developers the City should initially partner with for the potential sale and redevelopment of these parcels. The proposals and a summary of the recommendation can be found at www.cityofmadison.com/business. The recommended developers will present their proposals at the beginning of the stakeholder meeting. This will be followed by an opportunity for questions and feedback by interested stakeholders. The developers, area Alders, and City staff will be available to answer questions and receive comments. The Capitol East District is located along E. Washington Avenue between Blair Street and First Street. Planned to be a creative, sustainable urban employment center and living community, its redevelopment will positively impact the economic growth of the City.
