
BUS LINES 2011/2012 Poetry Competition
Poems on Metro Transit busses
Fabu, Madison's Poet Laureate, announces the 2011 call for entry for Bus Lines, a high school poetry competition that prints selected poems on placards right above the seats on Metro Transit busses. Teachers, parents, and anyone who interacts with Madison High School students should encourage them to submit poems to Bus Lines. Madison students, who are enrolled in a high school within the Metro Transit ridership area during the 2011/2012 school year, are invited to submit up to three (3) original, unpublished poems to Bus Lines. Affirming poems written about the subject of liberty and life will be reviewed. Poems can be submitted in any language, but must also include an English language translation. Each poem must be no longer than five (5) lines. There is no entry fee. Previous Bus Lines poets are ineligible. Students whose poetry is selected for Bus Lines will give a public reading of their work and receive a monetary prize at the Wisconsin Book Festival's High School Friday on October 21, 2011 (Applicants should be available to attend that event). Deadline to apply is: September 30, 2011 Bus Lines, is a collaborative project involving: Fabu, Madison's Poet Laureate; Madison Arts Commission; City of Middleton Public Arts Committee; Metro Transit; Madison Metropolitan School District; and Madison Public Library.
