Top of State Street / Philosophers' Grove Design Workshop

posted

Public Design Workshop scheduled for Thursday November 20, 2014.

Located at the top of State Street, the intersection of the Capitol Square and State Street is an important crossroads for the city. Mayor Paul Soglin has directed City staff comprised of Planning, Engineering, Parks, Police and others to begin an effort to rethink the existing design and consider different approaches and ideas for the space, including the area known as the Philosophers’ Grove.

To ensure that it is an active and vibrant place for all residents and visitors, members of the Downtown Coordinating Committee and City staff will use input gathered at this meeting to guide ideas for potential design improvements, use, and programming recommendations for the Common Council.

"This workshop will provide an opportunity for interested businesses, residents, property owners, and downtown visitors to share their concerns, design ideas, and help the city move forward on a plan of action" said Mayor Soglin. "By Spring of 2015, the City will have a plan for a more attractive and active space that can be comfortable destination for all people."

Changes will help create a stronger connection for people on State Street and the Capitol Square who are visiting the Central Library, Overture Center for the Arts and the restaurants along West Mifflin and Fairchild Streets, as well as provide opportunities for a variety of activities and events.
